The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) commended a Bataan mayor for helping distressed overseas Filipino workers. Samal Mayor Alex Acuzar received the certificate of commendation from OWWA Region 3 Director Atty. Falconi V. Millar during a recent ceremony in Pampanga.

“This certificate is awarded for your laudable efforts in promoting the welfare of the OFWs and their families in your jurisdiction. Your invaluable support and assistance to our OFWs and their families, your dedication and hard work contributed immensely to the efficient delivery of services to your constituent OFWs”, reads the commendation.

Samal Municipal Administrator Jay Lat said Acuzar has been helping distressed OFWs in Samal and even from neighboring towns. He said some people directly asked assistance from the mayor for their relatives who are saddled with financial difficulties and other job-related problems. Lat said Mayor Acuzar, even when still not running for election had been helping many distressed OFWs go home. “Noon pa tumutulong si Mayor Alex Acuzar sa mga OFWs hindi lang mga taga-Samal kahit noon na hindi pa siya halal”, he added.
